Q) How long does the pack stay hot or cold?
You will receive most benefit from either the soothing warming or cooling effect during the first 20 to 40 minutes of use. The pack will remain either cold or warm for longer than this but the effect will not be as beneficial as during the early period of use. For heat therapy the pack can be immediately warmed again in the microwave if a longer period of treatment is required. If a longer period of cool therapy is required we would suggest also purchasing a space reusable gel pack. Q) How big is the pack?
The reusable gel pack is 27cm x 16.5cm. The gel pack fits snugly into the pocket of the wrap.
Q) What parts of the body can the pack be used on?
The pack can we used on a range of different limbs and body parts. This pack has a long elasticated wrap which can be stretched comfortably around the waist (fits waists up to 38"). However the elasticated wrap also has a velcro type attachment which means it can also be easily applied to smaller limbs and joints like knees, elbows or ankles. Simply wrap the elasticated strap more than once around smaller limbs or joints and then attach the velcro type fastener.
Q) Does the gel pack directly touch the skin?
No, the reusable gel pack fits directly into a pouch in the wrap. When the wrap is applied to the body the gel pack is not in direct contact with the skin. The black, perforated side of the pocket of the wrap is in contact with the skin, allowing the warming or cooling effect to transfer to the skin, without direct contact with the gel pack. It is recommended that the reusable gel packs are never placed directly on the skin.
Q) How do you heat the pack?
Remove the blue gel pack from the pocket of the wrap, place in a bowl of water and place in a microwave. Follow the heating instructions on the gel pack to warm the pack. Placing the gel pack in a bowl of water helps to ensure the gel is warmed evenly throughout the pack. When warm, remove the gel pack from the microwave, wipes off any excess water and place the gel pack into the pocket of the wrap. The wrap is then ready to be applied to the required area of the body. If you do not have access to a microwave, the gel pack can be heated by placing it into hot water.
Q) How do you cool the pack?
The best way to cool the gel pack is to place the pack in the freezer for approximately 2 hours prior to use. After 2 hours in the freezer the pack will be suitably cold and ready for treatment. If you do not have access to a freezer, the gel pack can be cooled in a fridge, although the cooling therapy will not be as effective as placing the pack in a freezer.
Q) Can I leave the gel pack in the freezer until I need it?
Yes, you can leave the gel pack in the freezer for longer than 2 hours. However, you may find that after a longer period of freezing that when removed from the freezer the gel pack feels less pliable than normal. If this is the case, let the gel pack warm up for a few minutes before application and the gel pack will become softer and more pliable again.
